Simulcast of TEDxChange, The Future We Make
On 20th September 2010, Aalto Social Impact was proud to present the first edition of TEDxOtaniemi. TEDxOtaniemi was a free viewing party to watch the simulcast of a very special TED conference: TEDxChange, The Future We Make. Organized by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in collaboration with TEDx, the event was hosted by TED curator Chris Anderson, and featured four experienced, engaging speakers who conveyed a glimpse into the work that goes behind creating and measuring progress in tackling the MDGs. The live event at the Paley Center for Media in New York City was streamed live to the web and close to 80 TEDx communities around the world were watching! About 60 people joined us at the Aalto Design Factory to celebrate the TED values of sharing inspiration, pursing interest freely, and deeply engaging with the world.
The TED website, on TEDxChange: TEDx and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have teamed up for a very special TEDx project — TEDxChange. TEDxChange marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the eight Millennium Development Goals set out by the UN to tackle global issues such as poverty, child mortality and disease. Convened by Melinda French Gates and featuring talks by some of the world’s most inspired thinkers and doers, TEDxChange will look at what changes have taken place in the last decade, and what more needs to be done to ensure the health and well-being of future generations.
What are the Millenium Development Goals?
Gates Foundation, on the MDGs: The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are eight international development targets set forth by the United Nations. Adopted by world leaders in the year 2000 and set to be achieved by 2015, the MDGs seek to spur development by improving social and economic conditions in the world’s poorest countries. TED has featured a to acquaint oneself with the various challenges of tackling the MDGs. The Flickr Photo Campaign
The Gates Foundation also initiated a viral photo campaign on flickr, with the theme “The Future We’ll Make”. The essence of the campaign was to connect the various TEDx communities around the world by coming together to imagine a common future. Some of us participated in the campaign by taking a photo of ourselves articulating a vision for the future in line with the 8 MDGs. Here are some pictures from the event and the photo campaign!
We hope that TEDx Otaniemi is the first of many TEDx events to bring the Aalto community together and celebrate great ideas worth spreading!
